Evolution of C&D Recycling

Construction and demolition sites generate a great deal of waste, a large percentage of which can be recycled or reused.

In November 2013 USGBC North Texas partnered with the Greater DFW Recycling Alliance for a symposium with presentations on compliance requirements, how to identify legitimate recycling companies, identifying red flags, and tracking important criteria for companies and hard-to-recycle items.

Presenters included the City of Lewisville, USGBC North Texas, Texas Commission for Environmental Quality, North Central Texas Council of Governments, and other top industry leaders on topics such as:

  • Resources: recycling, reuse, present and future requriements
  • Exterior: lumber, wood, shrubs, compost, concrete, brick, cmu, asphalt, tires, shingles, glass, porcelain
  • Interior: gypsum board, ceiling tiles, vct tiles, insulation, carpet and padding, paint, light bulbs, batteries
  • Case Study: tenant improvement/renovations and new construction strategies for meeting C&D recycling requirements
